Configuring Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol
This time we will configure VRRP for high availability.
Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol is the free HSRP choice and provides same funcionality. Is mandatory to know about this protocol, because we can see networks with a variety of vendors, and then we need a common standard.
VRRP is defined on RFC3768 and states:
- Does not provide load balancing
- Does not support IPv6
- Uses transport protocol IP 112
- Default priority is 100
- Hello intervals run every 1 second
- Uses multicast address 224.0.0.18
Interfaces statuses:
- Master. It is the virtual router
- Backup. Non-Master routers
We are going to use the same topology we used whe configuring HSRP
