I would like to send a huge thanks to Grant Smith, aka Denthor, from Asphyxia.

Somehow many many years ago, the VGA programming tutorials he wrote an published in an old BBS happened to fall in my hands. Very well explained topics, nice code samples written in Pascal and later on translated into C. With lots of ASM in the middle, like the sugar on top.

These triggered my curiosity, and woke up who am I nowadays. It also forced me to learn English on my own when I was around 6 or 7 years old. All with the sole purpose of understanding the content completely inside out. I think I read each one of these a thousand times, over and over again. That was something magical to me, 4 foreign languages in the same docs. English, maths, Pascal and computing. What a time!

I could never say thanks to him loud enough. So as an appreciation gesture I’ll publish his whole series in this blog. I’m sure these should be floating around the Internet somwhere, available or not. I don’t care, and hope Denthor does not mind.
